Too much of anything can be hard to digest- variety is truly the spice of life - something we all probably need a good dose of occasionally. May 2025 be carefully spiced with all the reads, jobs, people and events that challenge you to be your best. My love to the Sheboygan scribes, music aficionados, fashion geeks, furry parents and wishes for more discovery each day💕

There are lots of times I hated reality while I was learning who I was while growing up in my 20's and 30's. Once I accepted who I was though, life got easier:)

I’m glad you’ve found your groove again with reading and figured out which books work for you in this season of your life!

Tbh, I feel like I’ve got the opposite problem where I now know the kinds of nonfiction books I’ll really like so I just ignore everything else (no thanks to a dense tome of the maritime history of Capt Cook, even if it’s on the bestseller list) and hone in on the categories I really care about (nature and psychology stuff nowadays with a few memoirs and poetry sprinkled in).

But with fiction, my success rate of finding books I like is so much lower that I feel like I’ve been in a fiction rut for the past year. I’m open to way more fiction theoretically than nonfiction, which means I have to wade through a bunch of stuff I don’t like to find stuff I do like.

In terms of attention span, I think short story collections are great for when I don’t have the energy to dive into a big juicy book.

I listened to most of the audiobook version of Orbital. I liked the first hour or so but found it getting a little repetitive afterward. The audiobook narrator was great though.

Kinda funny that you're having the opposite struggle right now 😂 I like hearing that you've found subgenres within nonfiction that you're really drawn to. Maybe I need to figure out what niches can hold my attention when it comes to nonfiction as well. I like some self-help books, but they tend to be really hit or miss.

And good to know about the audiobook of Orbital! I have some trips coming up, so might listen to it if I haven't cracked open the physical book yet.
