An hour? What takes an hour? Those are some mighty clean sweaters. I am glad I don't have so much of that these days. I don't have a utility sink either.
15 minutes to get the wash basin out, add soap, and fill it. With wool I often have to refill the basin several times because the sweater soaks up a ton of water. Then I gently knead the sweater to rinse out any dirt, debris, etc.
Then I let the sweater soak for 20-30 minutes (often close to 30 because I leave the room and do something else in the meantime).
Then another 15-20 minutes to knead the sweater again, rinse it, gently wring it out (it gets SO heavy), dry it with several towels, and lay flat or hang it up.
So yeah, I could probably be a little quicker with the soaking time, but I like to take a long break in between washing and drying.
