Let's Write Together in July!
I'm teaching two writing classes this month and would love to see YOU there
Any writers in the house? I figure there are at least a few of you who read this newsletter. Even if you don’t go around calling yourself a writer, you still are one if you write in a journal, scrawl down ideas in your phone’s notes app, or blog anonymously on the internet.
Anyone can be a writer, whether they claim that label or not. All you need is a pen/pencil or a keyboard to get your experiences down on paper (or in a Word doc). And if you enjoy writing about your experiences and want to spend some time brainstorming with likeminded creatives, I have just the thing for you.
This month, I’m teaching a personal essay-writing class through WordHaven Bookhouse in Sheboygan, Wisconsin! It’s called The 60-Minute Memoir, and will be all about generating ideas for personal essays/memoir that you can write in a (relatively) short amount of time. We won’t be doing much writing during the class, but my goal is to give you the brainstorming and organizational tools you need to create your next essay without the writer’s block.
Whether you’re just picking up the pen for the first time in years or you write for a living and want to practice your memoir skills, this class is for everyone! Come hang out with other writers and get the creativity flowing.
This class is designed to be pretty laid-back. You don’t have to come in with a million ideas or some grand plan to start your own newsletter (though if you do, that’s cool too). Just bring an open mind and some questions if you have them — I’d love to help you out with specific writing-related things you might need advice on.
The 60-Minute Memoir costs $10 to attend, and you can sign up online. There will be two sessions for this course: one in-person and one virtual. The sessions will be identical — I am hosting both so that people who can’t get to the bookstore can still attend!
Here’s when each class is happening in July:
July 13 — In-person class at WordHaven in Sheboygan (click here to sign up)
July 27 — Virtual class (click here to sign up)*
I hope to see you there!
*For the virtual class: After you sign up, bookstore owner CJ Holstine will email you with a Zoom link and instructions for joining. Please be patient with them — the bookstore is a small operation and there may be a slight delay in getting the details to you. I promise you’re not being ignored!
